Centenial Celebrations fill me with a great longing to join in! All the gatherings and the places you mention bring back memories of so many events, sixty to seventy years ago when we travelled to school – the rush at Kalka to get good places in the small train onwards, the shouting from carriage to carriage, getting out when the train was slowed down by a steep bit of the line and running up to another carriage! How the Guard used to swear and yell at us!! And the time spent at Barog -ah! I wish I could be with you! But I can no longer travel long journeys; as it is I need to walk with a stick and get short of breath on the slightest slope let alone the roads and pathways in Shimla!
I attend all the OCA Reunions in London and meet about a dozen or more of friends I was with at School, and also many O.C.’s of later years who have become strong friends. It amazes that. while I am on the way to a Reunion, if I see a person I have never met before and spot that he is wearing a B.C.S. tie I can say “I know where you must be going, let’s go together!” As we meet again year by year. I have so many friendships across the generations which now have grown stronger.
By the way, The “Old Cottonians Online” is a source of much pleasure to me, as I am sure it is to many other Old Cottonians. Through it we can keep up links which we would not be able to do otherwise, and it is like a window on to a rich world I share with so many others.
Yours sincerely,
Allan Bapty, Rivaz 36-38, 40-44.
