Wamiq Rasheed, mentioned by him, was my father. Ironically, he also passed away in 2017 in Houston, Texas. He attended Lawrence College, Ghora Gali after partition and eventually joined the Pakistan Airforce, taking part in the 1965 and 1971 wars.

Moga is not too far from Lahore, the same Himalayan winds blow across the borders and enriches the people living in the area.I hope this finds you well.

There were a number of middlecoats in Ratlam all working for the railways.
I will call my mom and find out the Captains name.

Thankyou Gerald and wish you the best wherever you are.I knew a number of boys from your community in Lahore and Karachi. Many had Goan connections as they came to study this side for eg at St.Anthony’s.Lahore where I spent many happy years. It had a very high standard. The current Archbishop Lawrence Saldanha is the elder brother of my friend of those days namely Desmond Saldanha. In Karachi I knew the Coutinhos and in Lahore. the Cornelius boys, their father was the Chief Justice of Pakistan.I remember a classic boxing match between Ramnsay and Middlecoat, later a star of the Airforce.
By the way is the PIA pilots name ‘Felix’?Jal is a dear friend …he was my House Captain at BCS,did fag for him too !I pray you are well settled in Toronto and glad to hear from you.If you are visiting Lahore do let me know, stay with me.I will show you around all of it and all the places as they were at partition.

Thank you for sharing such a wonderful experience. I must have read it a couple of times just to get the innocence, the sadness, joys of a young boy.
I am Anglo Indian from my moms side and my dad’s family is from Goa. My mom’s sister and brother were in Karachi at the time of partition and till today have not met. One immigrated to Florida recently as her husband is a retired PIA pilot. I have heard so much stories about partition but to hear it from you was moving.
I want to thank you for the story and even though it is nearly 3 decades since I left BCS, you brought some memories again. Mr. Jal Boga does visit our OC events in Toronto and so has Peter Stringer.

I can relate to your story about meeting different people at BCS. I was one of the few catholic boys at school and to me it was the first experience of multi culturalism.

Thank you and may God bless you.

Dear Sukhsham Sahib,
Credit for this goes to BCS for ingraining all that was happening at that time in a young schoolboys mind. All credit to my parents for getting me into the school.During my parents stay in Simla the house at Stoke Mount was open to my friends on Sundays and these firmed up my life long friendships.Thankyou for a very appropriate comment. We hope to meet up some day and if you visit Lahore be my guest,Iftikhar

Great to hear from you,Vijay and wish you all the best.Cottonians can lead the way for many reasons.
I thought that during the car journey to Ambala I felt responsible for my cousins and sat in the front seat(bench seat) but like Oliver Twist felt a little apprehensive when our escort had to find a place for us for the night but destiny brought us to our kind and generous hosts that night. But I did not lose hope all the way.Things which BCS taught me carefully,
Best wishes and do hope we meet soon. You know who to contact if you are visiting Lahore, best wishes,Ipi

Dear Rohit,
I really appreciate your response.Gujranwala is close by and I pass through it on the GT road when I go to my village in the adjacent District Gujrat. It is a prosperous area of the country with a long history.Lawrence College, associated with Lawrence Sanawar,is in the hills. It is at a place Ghora Gali…very beautiful.Govt College Lahore is the country’s leading instituition and has been so since 1860 or so.Both Lawrence and Govt College have websites which can be accessed through Google.Admission in both is still very very competitive.Let me have you Dads name and years there and I will try and dig out his history. One day we shall meet, stay with me in Lahore,Iftikhar
